Letters of Recommendation for Dental School
Most dental schools will require a minimum of three letters of recommendation; often sending more (if the school will allow) can strengthen your application. The IU dental school requires three faculty recommendation letters, two of which must be from science professors. It is often helpful to have both science professors and nonscience professors submit letters of recommendation, as they may reflect on knowledge of different aspects of your academic abilities. Personal recommendations are not required by the IU dental school, but they can be helpful if they address specific ways in which you have prepared for dental school, such as through gaining exposure to dentistry, developing manual dexterity, or building interpersonal skills through community service. You should check the guidelines of other dental schools for the number and types of recommendation letters to submit by consulting the individual school's websites.
